Khan al-Saboun

Khans · Ottoman · late 16th c.

An Ottoman barracks that became the soap khan, and soap is still made in it.

Built at the end of the 16th century as a barracks, then taken over by soap makers who gave it their name. Tripoli soap is dried stacked in cones in the courtyard — a sight that has not changed in centuries, and a smell you meet before you reach the door.

Visiting

The courtyard is open and the workshops sell directly.
